The Elite Model Look contest is coming to Ireland for the first time this year on the hunt for the next big catwalk star. The Elite Model Look has launched the careers of super models such as Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Heidi Klum, and this year one lucky Irish woman will have the chance to break into the highly competitive modelling world. There will be nationwide castings beginning in May in Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford, Dublin and Belfast to find the Irish contestant to represent the country in China in the overall Elite Model final.

Here is a photo of Anna, i was experimenting with some lighting stuff today and i liked this frame that i captured so i thought i would share.. In stead of shooting using a 54k flash gun i used an ISO of 6400 with an f stop of 1.8 and the aperture set to 2400..

Today was so nice outside i had to shoot some footage of the pretty nature. This was shot in Cork, Ireland. I was shooting some plates to be used in another media project but i couldn't help myself put together a nice video for my YouTube best friend aka subscribers :)

I went down this morning and picked up a few copies of the Irish Daily Mail and as promised i scanned in the interview and guess who made the cut.. Yes thats right little Albi got in one of the pictures :) Click on the images to read the interview, i scanned them in very high res so you could read the interview !!

Today i was taking some photos for Anna's (TheStyleDiet) outfit of the day and while i was shooting away i though i would shoot some for myself. I love the old black and white images and the slight over exposure of one side of her face, so i set up one fill light @ 25k and place a spot @ 54k in front of her and used the low level ISO of 100 and the aperture set to 50 with an F/1.8. Every time i photograph Anna it always reminds me why i fell in love with her.

Dazzledust25 from Makeupandbeauty.ie asked me on twitter, what was the best way to photograph make up. So i did a video tutorial on photographing make up. Because i come from motion media rather than static i use the concept of constant indirect light rather than using a flash, below are the results of photographing simple make up with a flash and without a flash using the ISO and F stop on the camera to control the amount of light on the final image.

So my last video was a million hours long, but it is probably the most meaningful video i have made, but i know a lot of people don't want to watch a 20 minute video, but there will be more of them, i have always been talking about that kinda stuff to my friends of people i have met in college or work and i thought i would try it out on you tube and well it seems to have been a hit. So here is todays video, its short and sweet just highlighting the fact that i now have a blog so hopefully i wont be blogging to myself and maybe i might get a comment or two :):)

I decided to set up a blog for my LeFloofTV you tube channel, I already have one for my digital media named Jonathan Joly but that was set up for college and not for my own personal interests. There are a lot of times where I think of something or something funny or interesting will happen where I won’t either talk about it on twitter or make a video so this will be the place where I will be chatting about it. A lot of people ask me about the cameras I use and how to produce the videos I do, well I will be covering this here. Also I will talk about topics that interest me for example computer games, animation, digital media, photography, current affairs and so on, so if you don’t like a post, just hang on in there, and something of interest will come up, in the mean time hit the button over there and follow me on twitter, or ask me a question on form spring or just watch my video here or on you tube. O and don’t forget to follow my blog the button is on here somewhere.

I get a lot of questions about what camera I shoot my videos with for my you tube channel LeFloofTV. I will be making a video tutorial for you tube about tips and tricks for shooting higher quality videos broken into sections, lighting, video, rendering and compressing. Those 4 elements are the most important factors when shooting a video for you tube. You tube use a process of conversion in order to display your videos in a fast streaming environment by converting them to flash using a codec called On Vp6. This codec changes the bit rate and frame rate. When I render out my final video I use a codec called MPEG2 which has a similar bit rate and frame rate and I convert my final video output to an MKV. Once I have created the MKV file I will force the extension to an AVI so You tube will process it faster and the MKV file size will compress a 1GB avi file to a small 10MB file without loosing any quality. I know this might all seem a little too complicated, but when I started showing Anna all these processes she thought there would be no way she could figure all this out, but now Anna is able to render out her videos, compress them and upload them without any help from me. Below is a few images of my current production rig I have used for my last few videos.

My main issue with shooting motion with this camera was the ability to hold the camera still. I needed to get it up on my shoulder, otherwise i wouldn't be able to shoot video.

I have a mounted Canon body with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II and 4 part macro extension tubes and 1 part wide angle adapter.

I am using a shoulder mount, spring loaded steady cam arm with belt attachment, matte box with French flag and top, an LCD and Sennheiser MKE 300 with wind dampener, which i will move from on top of the camera to the side.
